Waste volume: drawn up minus given
Waste is the volume drawn up minus the volume given. Drawing 1 mL and giving 0.7 mL leaves 0.3 mL to record, which is 3 mg at 10 mg/mL.

Recording it
Each waste is its own entry, so it comes off the container's running balance and is totalled separately. The printable waste log has columns for the drawn, given and wasted volumes and for the person wasting and the witness. How waste must be handled and witnessed at your practice is not something this page covers.
Questions
What if the volume given is more than the volume drawn?
The calculator flags it, because the waste would come out negative. It usually means one of the two figures was written down wrong.
Does this tell me whether my log is compliant?
No. We keep and total your records; we do not give legal or compliance advice. The calculator adds and subtracts the figures you type and shows where two of them differ.
